Hey Guys!
I don't know about you, but this week has been a hot one!
Grab a popsicle and have a seat 'cuz today, we're gonna talk about success.
How do you measure Success?
Be honest with me........
"That's a loaded question, Sarah."
"I know!!"
You see, when it comes to success, there's a circulating rumor that one has to meet a certain predetermined criteria in order to be awarded a success or deemed "SUCCESSFUL."
Miriam Webster defines Sucess as
Noun
The accomplishment of an aim or purpose.
Fun fact: Miriam Webster published his first version of the dictionary in 1806.
"Yep, real person.. not the internet." [gasp]
And-those of us born prior to the internet had to actually use this gigantic red book that weighed about 8lbs to research and learn things.
[Cringe] "Tell us it ISNT'T SO! "
(I see where there might be some ruffled feathers, don't loose your hat over it, I promise there's some good stuff about to happen 😉)
So now that we know the true definition, where does this rumor come from? Well, I'm gonna give you the answer:
LimitingBeliefs
"Omgsh, what are those ???"
Limiting beliefs are things we believe to be true, whether or not they have factual evidence.
We draw on these beliefs to make an assumption or conclusion about something, sometimes before that thing has even happened.
Or
We believe something about ourselves that there is no evidence to support that belief.
Such as : " I'm only loveable if the number on the scale reads 135 lbs."
Or " I'm only as valuable as the salary that I make."
Better yet, there's this line you might say to yourself : " Self, you will only be successful when your life looks like all the other happy people on IG/FB/other social media."
Of course these beliefs couldn't be farther from the truth, yet these types of beliefs seem to constantly pipe up when you least expect them to.
What's worse is the emotional space we hold for these thoughts on a regular basis and that we use these thoughts to determine our value or worth and in turn create a predetermined definition of success or lack there of.
The Challenge Is
Learning to re-define what evidences support the measurement we use for determaning measurable accomplishment.
When was the last time you took a good hard look at how successful you have already become?
I bet not as often as it feels to think you might be unsuccessful.
I want to encourage you to really look.
Deep down and discover what Limiting Beliefs you hold when it comes to being one's own worst critic.
For me, those beliefs challenge me to evaluate how I determine what amount of effort is "good enough". For example the perfectionist in me votes.. "Not enough untill it's perfect."
But, That's Not Reality:
You see, Sucess is not defined by perfection, tho it may be accompanied by it. Sucess is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.
The way I define success, is that, if one has achieved a goal then, by definition, you are successful, whether you feel it or not.
Life is a journey and each milestone no matter if it's clearly marked or just a gravel hiking trail is Sucess in an of itself because its progressive. You are SUCCESSFUL!!
Take a proud moment for yourself!! I'm proud of you!
Hats off to Sucess and keep at it friends!
