Hi!
Hope this week has been treating you well.
I was out taking a walk today and found this beauty!!
[Excitement barely contained !!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️]
And as I was admiring it, I got to thinking...... (I know.....don't hurt yourself there, Sarah)
Wondering, if you've heard of the "Butterfly Effect?" 🦋
Let's start of with some amazing facts about the Monarch Butterfly first tho.
Did you know:
The Monarch is unique in that it is the only known species of Butterfly to make a two way migration, just like birds do.
Some travel up to 3,000 miles to reach their winter home. "What??"
During winter they travel south into Mexico and parts of South America, and when it warms back up in North America, in the spring, they return to stay for the summer.
(National Geographic is the best source if you want to learn more amazing facts.)
"I know, some of you can hear the theme song 🎵 playing in your head.".............
" Did it again, you just dated yourself, Sarah."
Just how many species of butterflies are there?
18,000!! "What??"
Did you also know, the Monarch represents, strength, transformation, hope, renewal and the human soul in some cultures.
One can't help but be mesmerized with complete and utter fascination whenever they cross our path.
They really are remarkable creatures.
"That's so Cool, Sarah !!"
"I KNOW! RIGHT!!" [Inner monolog] - " I get so geeked about sharing such cool stuff!"
Anyway:
Back to the Butterfly Effect
- no, not the move from 2004 (Yikes!! That was a minute ago 😳)
Wikipedia defines: In chaos theory, the ButterflyEffect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions in which a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in larger differences in a larger system.
"Take a deep breath here.... its not as complicated as it sounds. "Thanks Wiki!"
So, what this means basically, is that a small seemingly insignificant thing/event/change such as a Butterfly flapping it's wings, can cause a chain reaction of consequences in much larger circumstances in another part of the world.
I find this interesting on several points because most people generally accept the idea of, cause and effect.
Most people recognize they, as an individual, play a unique roll in our world of human existence. And lastly, most people who have children try to teach these concepts at a young age by means of accountability and consequences.
Have you ever done something, that at the time seems insignificant, less valuable or not that big of a deal? Like a Butterfly flapping it's wings, because, I mean, that's what butterflies do.
[Raises hand] "are you really going to admit to that???" Yep.
I don't know about you, but I have. Sometimes, it seems like it's all the time!
When it comes to our everyday comings and goings, we generally give little thought to the impact we have on eachother as well as the world around us and that's a shame.
As I pondered this, one word came to mind.
Intentionality:
This word is so powerful yet very often hidden from our thoughts because of all the things we "have" to do from one moment to the next.
The word intentional is an adjective.
[Quizical Look] no, I didn't just speak some forgin language..tho, English is to some.
An adjective is a word that describes a noun which is a person, place or thing.
So if the word intentionallity describes a noun, what is that noun?
well, intentional describes thought, thoughts are things, so it's thinking about something, purposly planning to carry out that thought/idea into existence.
So now that we got all that out of the way.
(Didn't know you were going to have a little word salad for lunch did you?)I did that intentionally- ha!
Okay, all jokes aside, so we now understand a bit more about small things affecting bigger things, and we know we each have the ability to be intentional.
I ask you this question: What small things can each of us do intentionally that will change the course of history?
You see, all it takes is one person to take that initiative to pay it forward or give a compliment or share a kindness. We get so focused on just getting through the day we miss the small things that can ultimately change the world.
Food for thought:
Let's slow down a smidge, be Intentional with yourself and the relationships you have with others.
Let's transform the world together, from unintentionally livin' to intentionally drivin'.
You are an every day hero and meant to live an amazing life. Chances are, I bet you didn't even know it Butterfly! 🦋
Love this post.
Beautifully written. Look forward to many more.
